The City of Angkor was the largest pre-industrial metropolis in the world with a population near one million and an urban sprawl over similar to modern-day Los Angeles based on one research. Outside the town of Siem Reap, Cambodia, you will find the ancient Khmer city of Angkor. The ruins of Angkor are located in the middle of the forests and farmland to the north of the Great Lake Tonle Sap and south of the Kulen Hills. Its ruins are vast, interesting, and in places and colorful overgrown.

Today, many temples at Angkor have been restored, and they consist of the most significant site of Khmer architecture. The four gateways in the city wall facing north, south, east, and west that leads to the city’s geometric center, the Bayon. The fifth gate is the Victory Gate that leads from the royal palace to the East Baray. These gates are decorated by three-headed stone elephants, and each tower has four giant faces. Annually, there are two millions visitors in the city.
